PMA's nine-week Postgraduate Course in Magazine Journalism

This course is recognised throughout the industry as being the best of its type. It is now in its 20th year with many awards and successes throughout its existence. In 2003, Jennifer Taylor was shortlisted in Press Gazette's Scoop of the Year Award. In 2000 Hayley Jones was the winner of the Student Journalist of the Year Award, and Cordelia Brabbs was the runner-up. And in the shortlist of a further six candidates, Helen Osborne was in the running – another PMA Postgraduate .
In 2001 alone, Ben Walker was runner-up in the Student Journalist of the Year and Matt Butler was shortlisted. Sara Cremer, then editor of New Woman, who was on our 1994 course, was voted New Editor of the Year at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards. Sara is now editor of Eve magazine. In 2007 Rory Kinsella won Press Gazette's 'Press Cadet' competition. Among Rory's competitors were several graduates of other journalism courses around the country.
When you consider PMA's course is judged against all the university postgraduate courses in journalism, which are often at least one year long, you can understand why we are so proud of our record.
We not only teach you at an intensive pace, but we try very hard to help you get a job at the end of the course. Four people on the Winter 2006 course had been offered jobs before the end of the course. (One person had been offered four jobs). Out of 12 people on the Summer 06 course, 11 had jobs within eight weeks of the course ending. If you've applied for other journalism courses, when you're interviewed — ask them how many people get fully-paid jobs at the end of the course. Ask what contacts they have in the industry. Over the years we've trained more than 500 journalists through our postgrad course, many of whom are now in top jobs around the industry. Our contacts book is a great resource for helping our graduates find jobs.
Find out what some of those who have done the course think about it, read the blog on our dedicated website for the postgraduate course: www.becomeajournalist.com. If you feel you have the stamina and drive to make it into magazine journalism, call Melanie Gilbert on 01480 300653.
